Hail to the Hat...

I don't remember voting for it, but now that it's out there...

Judging on the web traffic, you would think Aretha's hat took the oath of office today. I think Obama should give that bow a cabinet position, don't you? Maybe Secretary of Sparkle?

Seriously though, I loved the President's speech. I can't remember the last time I was able to listen to an entire political speech without getting apoplectic with rage. Even when Bush said things I agreed with (which happened more often than I would ever admit in public), his delivery and voice and mannerisms seemed so patronizing and arrogant to me that I couldn't get through more than a couple of minutes. Today, however, I listened; I absorbed; I feel like I may have learned something. I don't have any delusions that President Obama will be any more successful managing the current crises than his predecessor, but I most certainly appreciate his ability to create an atmosphere of hope and change. He seems to have inspired the country to be more positive, more pro-active, more open... and really, that's what he will need to make the changes that we so desperately need.

Good luck, Mr. President. I, for one, am completely in your corner.

And Aretha, dear lady... you are CRAZY and so was your inauguration day bonnet. Keep up the good work.

I like the new header/banner! :)

I didn't listen to the speech. I watched almost everything else, but when the speech started, it seemed like more of the 'Yes We Can' variety that we have become familiar with already. Enough.

I'll probably watch it on youtube though.

on a lighter note, he was PRECIOUS dancing with michelle at the youth ball (apparently they did the same dance everywhere, but that's the one I saw). for once he looked HAPPY. And I was glad to see that he's not totally devoid of emotion after all (the inauguration itself gave no indication of that).

1. I want a hat like that...
2. I got goosebumps listening to his speech. (always a good sign with me)
3. Did you see him to the butt bump with a nine year old. He is one badass dancer!

One thing a commentator on MPR noted about the speech was that everyone listened without continually erupting into applause every two-and-a-half seconds. Unusual for a political speech. Loved the speech, btw. I watched CBS's livestream and at one point, the camera showed Obama's oldest daughter (don't know who is who yet with his daughters) playing with her camera, taking pics of her dad while he was speaking. Totally adorable.

As for Aretha's hat, the lady sure knows how to make a statement.

People in the office made fun of that hat, but I admired her for wearing it. And if I hadn't been at work, I'm pretty sure I would have cried listening to that speech. It's not often you get to see history being made, and at my company, the executives were clustering around the tvs with the rest of us. I took that as license to stop working and keep watching.
